Montclair State Edges Kean,
7-6
Union, N.J. (4/17/10) – The #18 Montclair
State University men's lacrosse team held of a fourth quarter
rally by Kean and defeated the Cougars, 7-6, Saturday evening in
Skyline Conference action in front of a large crowd at Kean Alumni
Stadium.
For the second straight contest, the Cougars fall by the final
of 7-6, as Montclair defeated Kean in the Skyline Championship
match last season by the same score.
Montclair State (10-3, 3-0 Skyline) controlled the first half as
they headed into the break with a 5-2 lead, aided by a four goal
second quarter. MSU's Patrick Nann (Livingston,
N.J.) provided two goals in the span.
The Red Hawks then pulled ahead 7-3 in the third quarter as
Mike Corsetto (Kinnelon, N.J.) and Tyler Meth (Basking
Ridge, N.J.) recorded goals.
But Kean surged late in the fourth quarter as Mike Terry
(Maplewood, N.J.) scored off an assist from
Anthony Bertucci (Edison, N.J.) to put the score
at 7-4. In the final minute of action, KU scored a quick goal
by Bailey (pictured right) off an MSU turnover to pull within
two. Just 14 seconds later and with 23 seconds to go, the
Cougars pulled within one as Scott Leathem (Fair Lawn,
N.J.) took a pass from Bailey. After winning the
final faceoff, Kean had one last attempt at tying the match, but
the shot sailed wide for the final.
Keeper John Gesumaria (Cranford, N.J.) had
seven saves in the loss while Red Hawk keeper Andrew Rosado
(Elmwood Park, N.J.) made eight in the win.
Kean returns to action on Wednesday when they host Farmingdale
