Women's Lacrosse Advances in
Skyline Tourney
UNION, N.J. (4/27/10) – Junior attack
Amanda South scored a game-high six goals to lead
the Kean University women's lacrosse team to a 18-12 win over
College of Mount Saint
Vincent in the Skyline Conference quarterfinals on Tuesday
evening.
The #4 Cougars (8-9) advance to face top-seeded Montclair State
University on Thursday, April 29, at 7 p.m.
Rookie Lyndsey Cannon added four goals and an
assist in the victory. For the Dolphins (6-6), goalkeeper
Jackie Horn made 16 saves.
The Cougars took an 8-4 lead with 18:07 remaining in the first
half, as South (pictured right) scored three times and Cannon and
senior Chelsea Davis each added two goals.
Over the next eight and a half minutes, the Dolphins answered with
five straight goals by five different players to take a 9-8 lead on
the unassisted goal by senior attack Kelly Martin with
9:35 left.
Davis and freshman Stephanie Tocko responded
with free position goals just 15 seconds apart to tie the game and
give the Cougars the lead for good with 6:14 left in the half,
before the Cougars added two more goals in the final 70 seconds to
take a 12-9 lead at halftime.
After the Cougars and Dolpins traded goals to open the second half,
Kean scored three straight goals, including back-to-back goals by
South, to build a 16-10 lead with just over eight minutes left in
the game.
Cannon added four groundballs, four draw controls and three
caused turnovers in the win, while Davis added three goals, one
assist, four draw controls and three caused turnovers.
In the net, freshman Jules Keeley (pictured
left) stopped 14 Dolphin shots for the win.
For the Dolphins, Martin and senior midfielder Katie
Tucci each scored three goals.
