Henderson Sends TCNJ Past Kean, 5-3

Union, N.J. (4/9/10) - Junior Connor Henderson (Monmouth, Jct., N.J.) picked up his second complete game win as The College of New Jersey defeated #12/19 Kean, 5-3, Friday afternoon in NJAC action.

Henderson improved to a perfect 5-0. The Lions (9-12, 3-3 NJAC) built a 5-0 lead and he held on giving up three runs, one earned, over nine innings to push past the Cougars (16-7, 3-2 NJAC).

TCNJ got on board with an unearned run in the first.  Senior Chris Esperon (Union, N.J.) hit a one-out double to score Scott Kelly (West Windsor, N.J.) who reached on a leadoff error.

Sophomore Mike Galeotafiore (Brick, N.J.) ripped two RBI doubles in the third and fourth innings to give The College of New Jersey an early 5-0 lead.

Kean responded with two runs in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI fielder's choice from Dylan Laguna (Edison, N.J.) and an RBI single by senior Dave Zavistoski (Edison, N.J.).

The Cougars added one more in the sixth as sophomore Lee Cavico (North Brunswick, N.J.) (pictured right) laced an RBI double.

Kean threatened in the eighth with runners on first and second and one out. But TCNJ's middle infield turned a critical 6-4-3 double play to escape the jam.

Senior Steve Montalbano (North Brunswick, N.J.) suffered the loss for Kean.  Montalbano (2-4) allowed three runs, two earned, in two plus innings of work.

The Cougars return to action on Saturday when they head to Rutgers-Newark to take on the Scarlet Raiders at 2 p.m.
