Baseball Blanks Farmingdale 5-0 & 12-0

Farmingdale, N.Y. (5/14/10) – The Kean University baseball team concluded regular season play with a doubleheader blanking of Farmingdale State College by the finals of 5-0 and 12-0, Friday evening.

Game One

The Cougars (34-10) scored single runs in five different innings in the nine inning affair.  What would turn out to be the winning run came in the second as catcher Eddie Jennings recorded a two-out, RBI single.  Junior Ken Gregory hit his seventh homerun of the season with a solo shot in the fourth.  In the seventh Steve Giambrone hit a two-out RBI single.

In a predetermined rotation senior Nick Cesare (pictured right) picked up the win.  Cesare (7-1) tossed three innings allowing just three hits.  Freshman Greg Baruka, Billy Dumchus and Brandon Bujnowski along with senior Joseph Tarallo finished out the game allowing just three more combined hits.

Game Two

The Cougars put runs on the board in the fourth inning taking a 4-0 lead.  Giambrone got things going with a leadoff walk.  After swiping second, he was sacrificed to third.  Gregory was given an intentional pass and Kyle Walker took advantage of that opportunity with a three run blast.  Nick Nolan then singled himself aboard and would go on to steal second and third before scoring on an RBI double by Lee Cavico.  After scoring two more in the fifth, Kean put the game out of reach with five in the sixth.  In the five run frame senior Mike Moceri had a two RBI double while sophomore Dylan Laguna had a two RBI triple.  Walker picked up another RBI with a groundout.

Offensively Walker (pictured left) was 1-for-4 with five RBI while Moceri was 2-for-3 with three RBI.

The staff of Kevin Herget, Julian Diaz and Steve Montalbano combined for 11 strikeouts and just one walk with just four hits in the second shutout of the day.  Herget (7-0) earned the win in the predetermined rotation.

Kean awaits the bracket announcement early Monday morning and will begin play at Waterfront Park in Trenton on Wednesday.
