Zamorsky Blanks Manhattanville in
NCAA Opener
TRENTON, N.J. (5/19/10) – Sophomore
Ryan Zamorsky pitched a five-hit, complete game
shutout to lead the Kean University baseball team to a 3-0 win over
Manhattanville College in the opening round of the NCAA Division
III Mid-Atlantic Regional on Wednesday evening.
Zamorsky struck out eight for the second-seeded Cougars (35-10),
who advance to face New Jersey Athletic Conference rival Rowan
University on Thursday evening at 7:45 p.m.
The #7 Valiants (22-20-1) will battle third-seeded Widener
University earlier in the day at 1:15 p.m., in an elimination game.
The Cougars quickly took a 2-0 lead in the home half of the
first inning, as senior Mike Moceri and junior
Ken Gregory had back-to-back run-scoring singles
to drive in sophomore Ryan Gibbons and
Steve Giambrone, respectively.
Two innings later, Gregory (pictured right) had a one-out double
to left-center and came home to score the insurance run two batters
later when senior Nick Nolan singled to
right-center.
Zamorsky was in control throughout the game, recording three
1-2-3 innings and only allowing one Valiant to advance to third
base, as he improved to 2-2 this season.
At the plate, Gregory and Nolan each had two hits and a
RBI.
For Manhattanville, starter Steve Arroyo-Falcon (4-5)
took the loss, scattering seven hits and five strikeouts, while
allowing just two earned runs.
First baseman Chris Nardozzi finished 2-of-4 for the
lone multi-hit game for the Pride.
