Men's Lacrosse Propels to ECAC Championship Match

Union, N.J. (5/15/10) – Senior Anthony Bertucci scored four goals as top-seeded Kean University scored 10 of the game's first 12 goals as the Cougars knocked off fifth-seeded Medaille College, 14-8 in the ECAC Division III Men's Lacrosse Mid-Atlantic Championship on Saturday afternoon.

Nick Angrisani tallied a pair of scores as the Cougars now advance to the championship on Sunday, May 16 against a familiar foe. Kean will take on No. 3 seed and Skyline Conference rival Richard Stockton for the ECAC title at 2:30 pm. It will be the second meeting between the two teams with the Cougars posting an 11-2 win over the Ospreys back on April 8.

Jake Engelman and Tyler Stassburg had two goals apiece for the Mavericks, who ended their season at 9-9. Medaille reach the semifinals by knocking off No. 4 seed Morrisville State, 11-10 in the opening round on Wednesday.

Kean scored three times in the first 3:03 of the game.  C.J. Gannon scored 69 seconds into the contest off an assist from Angrisani and Bertucci's first goal just over a minute later made the score 2-0. Gannon then fed Jazimar Bailey for the third goal as Kean led 4-0 before the Mavericks got on the board with 34 seconds left as Engelman connected on the first of his two goals.

Engelman's second with 11:53 to play in the second got Medaille within 4-2, however Kean would rip off the next seven goals to end the half taking a commanding 9-2 lead at the break. Angrisani fed Bertucci for the first goal of the run and then got one for himself with 10:39 left. Scott Leatham connected with 9:18 remaining before Bertucci wrapped up the half with two more, the latter coming with 32 seconds on the clock as the Cougars took a seven-goal lead into the break.

Senior goalkeeper John Gesumaria made eight saves for Kean, which outshot Medaille, 43-25 in the contest.  Andrew Rau was 11-of-17 on faceoffs with four ground balls for Kean.

Senior Jordan Ellis stopped nine shots for the Mavericks.
