Kean Tames TCNJ, 6-1
Union, N.J. (5/6/10) – Senior southpaw
Nick Cesare tossed his third complete game of the
season as Kean defeated The College of New Jersey, 6-1, Thursday
afternoon in the second round of the NJAC Tournament.
Cesare (6-1) (pictured right) allowed just one earned run and five
hits as Kean improved to 30-10 this season, the sixth straight
season reaching the 30 win plateau.
The College of New Jersey (21-18) struck first with a single run
in the fourth inning James Ruzich scored off a Cougar
miscue after reaching on a leadoff walk. The Cougars took the
lead for good in the bottom of the fifth scoring three runs all
with two outs. Sophomore Ryan Gibbons
started things off with a double. Freshman Steve
Giambrone then singled him home to knot the game at
one. Kean then loaded the bases after a walk and TCNJ
miscue. Kean then scored two more off another Lions'
miscue to take a 3-1 lead.
In their half of the sixth, Gibbons drove in two with a single
to left-center.
Senior Greg Spatz suffered the loss. Spatz (5-4)
allowed six runs, three earned, in six and a third innings of
work.
For the Cougars, Gibbons was 2-for-5 while Ken
Gregory was 2-for-4. For the Lions, Scott
Kelly and Ryan Anzelone each had two hits.
Kean advances to take on #6 Montclair State University at 8 a.m.
on Saturday, May 8th at Rowan University. The
College of New Jersey will face host Rowan University at noon.
