UNION, N.J. (9/1/10) – Wesley College
senior Brooke Tadlock scored the game-winning goal eight
minutes into overtime to lift the Wolverines to a 2-1 victory over
host Kean University in the season opener on Wednesday evening at
Kean Alumni Stadium.
Tadlock scored both goals for Wesley (1-0), while rookie
Makia Sturgis netted the lone goal for the Cougars
(0-1) in the season opener.
After a scoreless opening 30 minutes of play in the first half,
the Wolverines struck first as Tadlock netted the opening goal off
the assist from freshman Madison Leone at 31:25. The
Cougars answered right back however, as Sturgis worked her way
through the Wesley defense and found the back of the cage just 61
seconds later to tie the game back up.
The teams would battle to a scoreless second half, setting up
the extra session. With each team allowed just seven players
on the field, both teams had scoring chances before Tadlock found
the back of the cage past a diving Lauren Dobbs
for the golden goal midway through the overtime.
Dobbs made nine saves in goal for the Cougars, while Wesley
keeper Sarah Johnson stopped two shots.
The Cougars return to action on Friday, September 3, as the
Cougars face-off against Misericordia University in the Mule
Classic at Muhlenberg College.
