Caitlin Carey and sophomore Carly
Seidel each scored goals to lead the Kean University
women's soccer team to a 2-1 win over New York University at
the Seventh Annual Stevens Engineering Cup at Stevens Institute of
Technology on Saturday afternoon.
Senior goalkeeper Leandra Russo made six saves
for the Cougars (4-0-1), who were outshot 19-11 by the Violets
(1-4).
The Cougars scored early in the opening half when Carey
(pictured right) took the corner kick from senior Samantha Ciccone
and buried the shot into the lower left-hand corner for the 1-0
lead in the 8th minute of action.
Seidel extended the lead to 2-0 in the 22 minute, scoring off
the free kick about 30-yards out.
In the second half, NYU was on the offensive with a 10-4
advantage in shots and would cut the lead in half on the unassisted
goal by Natalie Beach.
The Cougars return to action on Sunday afternoon, when they
battle the host Ducks at noon.
