Women's Soccer Defeats NYU, 2-1

HOBOKEN, N.J. (9/11/10) – Freshman Caitlin Carey and sophomore Carly Seidel each scored goals to lead the Kean University women's soccer team to a 2-1 win over New York University at the Seventh Annual Stevens Engineering Cup at Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday afternoon.

Senior goalkeeper Leandra Russo made six saves for the Cougars (4-0-1), who were outshot 19-11 by the Violets (1-4).

The Cougars scored early in the opening half when Carey (pictured right) took the corner kick from senior Samantha Ciccone and buried the shot into the lower left-hand corner for the 1-0 lead in the 8th minute of action.

Seidel extended the lead to 2-0 in the 22 minute, scoring off the free kick about 30-yards out.

In the second half, NYU was on the offensive with a 10-4 advantage in shots and would cut the lead in half on the unassisted goal by Natalie Beach.

The Cougars return to action on Sunday afternoon, when they battle the host Ducks at noon.
