POMONA, N.J. (9/18/10) – Sophomore
Kristen
Hager scored the game-winning goal with one minute
remaining in the game to lift the Kean University women's soccer
team to a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over host Richard Stockton
College on Saturday afternoon.
In the New Jersey Athletic Conference opener for both teams,
senior goalkeeper Leandra
Russo (pictured right) made eight saves for the
Cougars (6-1-1, 1-0 NJAC), who gave Head Coach Brian
Doherty his 100th career coaching victory.
For the Ospreys (4-2-1, 0-1 NJAC), goalkeeper Brittney
Boyle stopped six shots.
The two teams exchanged goals in the opening 10 minutes of
action, as the Ospreys got on the board first when Samantha
Bean scored off the assist from Jacque Becker at the
7:24 mark.
Just over two minutes later, the Cougars tied the game when
senior Randi
Vizoco netted the goal off the assist from Hager.
The score would remain that way until Hager headed the
game-winner, scoring off the assist from sophomore Carly
Seidel on the corner opportunity with just one minute
left in the second overtime.
The win was number 100 for head coach Brian
Doherty. In 12 seasons at Kean, Doherty, already the
winningest women's soccer coach in the program's history, now has a
100-95-21 record.
The Cougars return to action on Wednesday, September 22, when
they host Rutgers-Newark in NJAC action at 7:30 p.m.
