Rochester, N.Y. (10/23/11) – The Kean University men's soccer team battled to a 2-2 tie against host University of Rochester on Sunday afternoon.
Today's match brings Kean's record to 10-5-3 this season while Rochester stands at 8-3-2.
The Cougars took a 1-0 lead just two and a half minutes into the game. Rookie Erickson Simeon ran down a long pass at midfield, outpaced a Rochester fullback down left wing, and then sped to the edge of the penalty area where he lofted the ball into the top right hand corner of the goal. Rochester leveled it just three minutes later.
The score would stay that way until the second half as Kean took the lead back at 53:01. Junior Abner Denis (pictured left) slotted a penalty kick down the center of the goal to take a 2-1 lead. The kick was awarded after Rochester pulled down junior Kharee Winslow as the Kean forward chased a pass into the area. Rochester's tying goal came at 83:55. Kean was whistled for a foul along the right sideline, 25 yards from goal. The Yellowjackets lofted the ball into the box and headed home the equalizer from inside the crease.
Sophomore Tyler Callahan made three saves for Kean.
The Yellowjackets held a 23-15 shot advantage, although Kean put nine shots on goal.
Kean concludes the regular season on Wednesday when they travel to William Paterson University.
