Kean Women Edge Ramapo, 90-84

Mahwah, N.J. (12/3/11) – Junior Naimah Clemons recorded a game-high 35 points to as the Kean University women's basketball team rallied late in the second half to pull away from Ramapo College, 90-84, Saturday afternoon.

With the win the Cougars improve to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in New Jersey Athletic Conference action.  The loss drops the Roadrunners to 4-2 and 0-2 in the NJAC.

Ramapo jumped right into action scoring the first eight points of the matchup.  Kean responded and tied up the game at nine-all before taking their only lead of the first half as senior Noel Mathis netted a basket to put the Cougars up 11-9.  The score would remain close for the remainder of the half with the Roadrunners holding a 41-38 advantage heading into the break.  Clemons led all players with 15 first-half points while Briana Winston added seven.

Both teams see-sawed early in the second half before Ramapo extended their lead to as many as 10 with under 10 minutes to go.  Kean responded with a 10-1 run and closed the gap to just one point as four different Cougars scored in the span.  The Cougars took the lead for good with 1:52 to go as Danielle McFadden nailed to free throws to put the score at 83-81.  Kean would score four points from the charity stripe in the final 15 seconds to seal the win.

McFadden finished with 17 points and nine rebounds while Winston added 15 points and six rebounds.

Kean returns to action on Wednesday when they travel to DeSales University.
