New York, N.J. (2/27/11) – The Kean
University men's volleyball team finished the weekend with a
1-3 record against two nationally ranked opponents at the Baruch
College Invitational.
In Saturday's action the Cougars (6-14) fell to #8 Rivier
College, 3-0 (16-25, 19-25, 21-25) and #14 Milwaukee School of
Engineering, 3-0 (20-25, 18-25, 13-25). In Sunday's
action Kean defeated Elmira College, 3-1 (25-23, 29-31, 25-18,
25-18) and narrowly fell to Newbury College, 3-2 (22-25, 16-25,
25-22, 25-22, 14-16).
For his collective efforts this weekend, sophomore Steve
Vahalla was named to the All-Tournament team. In
four matches this weekend, Vahalla (pictured left) tallied 56 kills
with a .336 hitting percentage. He also recorded 21 digs, six
solo blocks and six assisted blocks.
Rookie Christian Portera collected 52 kills and
20 digs along with six solo blocks.
Kean returns to NECVA-Metro action on Tuesday, March
1st when they host Lancaster Bible College at 7:30
p.m.
