Women's Lacrosse Rallies Against Centenary, 13-12

Hackettstown, N.J. (3/31/11) – The Kean University women's lacrosse team rallied with seven straight goals in the second half to defeat host Centenary College, 13-12, in non-conference action on Thursday afternoon in a rescheduled matchup.

Sophomore Lyndsey Cannon (pictured left) led all players with five goals as Kean improved to 3-5 overall this season.

It was a back-and-forth affair for most of the first half as both teams battled to a six-all tie with just over four minutes to go.  But the Cyclones (3-2) scored the final two goals of the half to take a slim 8-6 lead at the break.

Centenary would jump out of the gate early in the second half and scored three straight to take an 11-6 lead with 22:47 remaining.  The Cougars then powered through scoring seven straight goals over a ten minute span.  Cannon started the run with an unassisted goal with 12:25 to go and added two more goals and an assist in the run.  Senior Erica Kelly capped the run off a pass from freshman Julie Knodt to take a 13-11 lead.  The Cyclones would score one more to pull within one, but the Cougars held on for the victory.

Sophomore Jules Keeley earned the win in goal.  Keeley (pictured right) re-entered in the second half and was part of the Kean surge.  In all, she tallied five saves in just over 35 minutes of action.

Offensively sophomore Stephanie Tocko recorded three goals and an assist along with two draw controls while Knodt had one goal and one assist along with four groundballs.  Cannon finished with five goals and an assist along with eight draw controls, two groundballs and a caused turnover.

Kean returns to Skyline Conference action on Saturday when they host the Sage Colleges at 1 p.m.
