UNION, N.J. (4/2/11) – The Kean
University women's lacrosse team scored seven of the
game's first eight goals en-route to a 20-2 win over The Sage
Colleges in Skyline Conference action on Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore Stephanie Tocko netted a game-high
four goals in the win, while junior Ginelle Butler netted
a pair of goals and in the process became Sage's all-time
leader in career goals.
After the two teams traded goals in the opening minutes, Tocko
opened a 6-0 run with back-to-back goals as Kean built a 7-1
lead. Butler halted the run with an unassisted goal midway
through the first half, but the Cougars closed out the half with
seven straight goals to take a 14-2 lead at halftime.
Kean scored all six goals in the second half to pull away for
its largest win of the season.
Sophomore Lyndsey Cannon had three goals, an
assist and five draw controls, while senior Amanda
South added three goals. Senior defender
Joelle Vitale had six caused turnovers and six
groundballs.
For the Gators, goalkeeper Brittany Schafer made 17
saves in the first 45 minutes of action.
The Cougars return to Skyline action on Tuesday, April 5, when
they travel to SUNY Maritime College.
