THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (4/5/11) – Attacks
Lyndsey Cannon and Amanda South
combined for nine goals and two assist, as the Kean women's
lacrosse team defeated host SUNY Maritime, 19-4, in Skyline
Conference action on Tuesday evening.
Cannon (pictured left) finished with five goals and two assists for
the Cougars (5-5, 4-1 Skyline), who won for the fifth time in the
last six games. For Maritime (1-9, 0-6 Skyline), Kristen
Saporito finished with two goals.
Trailing 1-0, the Cougars scored the next three goals to take a
3-1 lead following a goal from South and back-to-back tallies from
Cannon. Maritime pulled to within 3-2 on a goal by Saporito,
however the Cougars netted the next three goals to built a 6-2
advantage midway through the first half.
Maritime cut the deficit to three goals, however the Cougars
closed the half with seven unanswered goals to take a 13-3 lead, as
Cannon and South each scored three times in the run.
Kean extended the run to 11 straight goals with the first four
of the second half, as they pulled away for the 15-goal
victory.
Cannon added five draw controls, while sophomore
Stephanie Tocko finished with two goals, three
assists and three draw controls. Freshman Julie
Knodt added two goals and two assists.
Goalkeepers Ashlie Berghold and Jules Keeley combined for 10
saves.
