Women's Lacrosse Sails Past Mt. St. Vincent, 24-14

Union, N.J. (4/7/11) – The Kean University women's lacrosse team improved to 5-1 in Skyline Conference play as they defeated the College of Mt. St. Vincent, 24-14, Thursday evening in the high scoring affair.

Sophomores Lyndsey Cannon and Stephanie Tocko led Kean (6-5, 5-1 Skyline) with five goals apiece.  Senior Erin Woerner led the Dolphins (4-5, 3-3 Skyline) with a game-high eight goals.

After trading goals early, the Cougars used back-to-back man-up goals from Tocko (pictured left) and freshman Ciara Mastrodomenico to take an early 3-1 lead.  Mt. St. Vincent would later tie the game at four-all with consecutive goals from Woerner.  Kean then rattled off four straight goals over a five minute span to take the lead for good.  The Cougars headed into the break with a 13-8 advantage.

The Dolphins would get as close as 14-12 on a free position goal from senior Jessie Mitchell, but the Cougars responded with three straight to push the advantage to 17-12.  The Cougars would go on to score seven straight late in the second half to put the game out of reach.

Cannon added two assists along with her five goals, good for seven points.  She also recorded four groundballs and three draw controls.  Freshman Julie Knodt added three goals and one assist while senior Amanda South finished with three goals and two assists.  Junior Katy Bednarz (pictured right) tallied six draw controls in the win.

Mitchell finished the night with three goals and two assists along with nine draw controls for the Dolphins.  Sophomore Nicole Flores added two goals in the loss.

Sophomore Jules Keeley earned the win in goal for Kean.  Keeley stopped ten shots in 34:30 minutes of action. 

Kean returns to Skyline Conference action on Saturday when they travel to face Farmingdale State College at 1 p.m.
