Women's Lacrosse Edged by Farmingdale, 13-12

Farmingdale, N.Y. (4/9/11) – The Kean University women's lacrosse team lost to host Farmingdale State College in Skyline Conference action on Saturday afternoon by the final of 13-12.

Senior Amanda South scored the first goal in today's action to give Kean a quick 1-0 lead, but Farmingdale quickly responded and scored six straight to take a 6-1 lead with just over 10 minutes to go in the first half.  The Cougars (6-6, 5-2 Skyline) didn't go quietly in the first half, scoring four goals in the final five minutes to close within two (7-5) at intermission.  South registered three goals in the run.

It was then a see-saw affair in the second half as sophomore Lyndsey Cannon tied the game at eight-all with an unassisted goal with 23:26 to go.  South then gave Kean the lead with an unassisted goal just one minute later.  The Rams (6-4, 5-0 Skyline) then recorded back-to-back goals from Kim Lehmann to take a 10-9 lead before South recorded her sixth goal of the game to knot the game at 10-10.

Farmingdale would score two more to take a 12-10 before Cannon cut that lead to one off a free-position goal with 6:06 to go.  Carly Schneider then scored her fifth of the afternoon with 5:13 to go for what would be the game-winner.  Kean's Stephanie Tocko scored with 1:28 to go to pull within one, but that would be as close as the Cougars would get in the 13-12 loss.

Cannon finished with four goals, an assist and three draw controls.  South had a game-high six goals and three groundballs.  With today's goals, South has etched her name into another Kean category setting the career standard in goals with 195.

Kean returns to action on Tuesday, April 12th when they host Rutgers-Camden on Senior Night at 7 p.m.
