UNION, N.J. (4/6/11) – Senior Justin Lappen scored twice in the opening nine seconds of the game to lead the Kean University men's lacrosse team to a 16-0 shutout over Mount Saint Mary College in Skyline Conference action on Wednesday evening.
The Cougars (7-3, 2-0 Skyline) held a commanding 58-12 advantage in shots, as 10 different players scored goals in the win.
Goalkeeper Shawn Cobstill made 17 saves for the Knights (2-10, 0-3 Skyline).
Lappen (pictured left) won back-to-back faceoffs to open the game, picking up the groundball and racing down field to score the goals just five and nine seconds into the contest.
The Cougars would open up an 8-0 lead after the first quarter, as freshman Richard Cheifitz and junior Nick Angrisani also added two goals apiece.
Cheifitz and Angrisani each netted their third goals of the game to open up the second quarter, before Kean would take an 11-0 lead at halftime on a goal by junior Matt Trapani.
Kean added three more goals in the third quarter and two goals in the fourth quarter to close out the scoring.
Angrisani (pictured right) finished with three goals, five groundballs and three caused turnovers, while Lappen won 10-of-12 faceoffs and had seven groundballs.
For the Knights, freshman Matt Buonocore had four caused turnovers and three groundballs.
The Cougars travel to SUNY Maritime College on Saturday, April 9, for a Skyline Conference game at 1 p.m.
