WATERVILLE, Maine (9/11/11) – Senior Olivia Triano scored four times and Kean jumped out to a 5-0 first-half lead en-route to the 8-0 shutout victory over host Thomas College in non-conference field hockey action on Sunday afternoon.
Triano scored the first two goals of the game, first off the assist from senior Cat Dowling just 12:14 into the game, before tallying the unassisted goal 2:14 later.
Junior Kelly Bachovchin extended the lead to 3-0 with less than 12 minutes remaining in the half, scoring off the assist from Triano, and Dowling had an unassisted goal with just 9:32 left in the opening half for the four-goal advantage.
Triano closed out the first half scoring with the hat trick in the first half, as the Cougars took a 5-0 lead.
Freshmen Lauren Conrad and Briana Mace each scored second-half goals, and Triano netted the final goal of the game to finish with four goals.
In goal, freshman Kylie Vaughn-Kuehl made two saves in her first career game.
The Cougars held a commanding 30-4 advantage in shots and 21-0 edge in penalty corners.
Kean opens New Jersey Athletic Conference play on Tuesday, September 13, when the Cougars host Montclair State University at 7:30 p.m.
