Men's Soccer Pushes Past Stockton, 5-2

Galloway, N.J. (9/17/11) – The Kean University men's soccer team jumped out to an 4-0 lead on their way to defeating Richard Stockton College, 5-2, Saturday afternoon in the conference opener for both.

Richard Stockton (5-2, 0-1 NJAC) saw their four match unbeaten streak come to a halt while having their shutout streak stopped at 424 minutes.

The Cougars (4-1-2, 1-0 NJAC) dominated from the beginning as they scored twice in the first half on goals by rookie Erickson Simeon and junior Abner Denis, both assisted by Sheldon Palmer giving the Cougars a 2-0 lead at the break.

Palmer (pictured left) then scored 7:43 into the second half off an assist from junior Tiago Goetzke to make it 3-0 while also ending the day for Stockton goalie Tim Brett.  Rookie Alexander Fernandez scored on an assist from Denis for a 4-0 lead before the Ospreys broke the shutout.

Kevin Churchill hit the net with 16 minutes remaining on assists from Anthony Procopio and Dominic Nocito to cut the lead to 4-1. Kean extended their lead to four once again just 36 seconds later on a score by junior Danny Olivo from Tulio PintoDaen McMichael got his first goal of the season for the Ospreys with a helper from Brian Thomsen with just 1:38 remaining to set the 5-2 final score.

Netminder Brian Haines made two saves in recording the victory for the Cougars. Brett, who suffered his first loss of the season, made four saves before giving way to Noah Morris, who played the final 36 minutes. Morris kicked out five shots.

Kean returns home to face off against Rutgers-Newark on Wednesday for a 7:30 kickoff.
