Women's Soccer Blanks Rutgers-Newark, 4-0

NEWARK, N.J. (9/21/11) – Kean University received goals from four different players and the Cougar defense allowed just five shots to post a 4-0 shutout victory over Rutgers-Newark in New Jersey Athletic Conference women's soccer action on Wednesday evening.

Junior forward Teghan Pecherski and Carly Seidel each had a goal and an assist for the Cougars (5-2-1, 2-0 NJAC).  Rutgers-Newark goalkeeper Danielle Griscom made 10 saves for the Scarlet Raiders (2-6, 0-1 NJAC).

Sophomore midfielder Carla Vitola (pictured left) scored what proved to be the game-winner in the 26th minute on a crossing pass from the right baseline from Pecherski.  Pecherski headed in an insurance goal less than two minutes later on a pass from junior Julianna Natale

In the second half, senior Danielle Esposito scored on a cross from Seidel in the 65th minute, before Seidel closed out the closing when she took a through pass from freshman midfielder Carly Snyder for the breakaway goal with 20 minutes left.

Kean goalkeeper Caitlin Hoskins needed to make just one second half save for the victory.

The Cougars return to action on Saturday, September 24, when they travel to Rutgers-Camden for an NJAC match at 1 p.m.
