Scranton, Pa. (12/15/12) – The University
of Scranton used an 18-6 run late in the second half to break
43-all tie and top the Kean University women's basketball
team, 60-49, Saturday evening.
Kean (1-8) was led by sophomore AnnaRose Pierre
who had 10 points and nine rebounds. Sophomore forward
Meredith Mesaris scored a game-high 17 while sophomore
Lia DiSciascio scored 14 points for the Lady Royals who
improve to 8-2.
Scranton led by five at halftime, but scored just two points in
the first six minutes of the second half as the Cougars pulled
even, then eventually took a one-point lead with 12:21 to play when
a layup by sophomore Shanice Jones capped a 10-4
run.
Kean still led by a point, 38-37, with just under seven minutes
to play when DiSciascio drilled a 3-pointer to put the Lady Royals
ahead. After a Kean bucket tied the score and Scranton missed a 3
on its next possession, DiSciascio made a diving steal underneath
the Cougars' basket and Mesaris hit two free throws on the ensuing
possession.
Kean came back yet again with a 3-pointer by sophomore
Meghan Williams, but it was the Cougars' final
lead of the night as DiSciascio hit another 3-pointer to put
Scranton ahead for good, 45-43, with 5:02 to play.
The Cougars enjoy a short break to end the fall semester and
return to action in 2013.
