UNION, N.J. (3/14/12) – The Kean
University men's lacrosse scored 10 straight goals
spanning the first through third quarters to pull away from Lasell
College, 12-5, in non-conference action on Wednesday evening.
Sophomore John Marcelli led all scorers with
three goals, as 11 different Cougars (5-1) recorded a point in the
victory. For the Lasers (1-3), Jake LaMorte finished
with a team-high two goals.
Lasall took an early 3-1 lead in the first quarter, as senior
midfielder Adam Foss capped the early run with a caused
turnover, groundball and goal with 4:41 remaining in the
quarter. From there, the Cougars answered with 10 straight
goals to take an 11-3 lead late in the third quarter.
Senior Nick Angrisani (pictured left) opened
the run with a man-up goal off the assist from junior Sean
Bobal, and the Cougars would tie the game before the end
of the opening quarter on the Brad Mills goal.
Kean scored all three second-quarter goals in a 2:13 span late in
the quarter, as Marcelli netted the first two goals, before
sophomore Collin Harrity tallied the unassisted
goal after causing a turnover for the 6-3 lead at halftime with
2:45 remaining in the quarter.
In the third quarter, the Cougars scored the first five goals,
as sophomore Richard Cheifitz gave the Cougars the
11-3 lead with 2:28 remaining in the third quarter. Lasell
halted the run with the final two goals of the quarter and the
Cougars netted the final goal of the game for the 12-5 final.
In the victory, Mills finished with two goals and an assist,
while Cheifitz added a pair of goals. Bobal and junior
Tom Clifford each had two assist for Kean.
Defensively, sophomore Zach Williams had five
caused turnovers and five groundballs and goalkeepers Lane
Zierten and Dino Vitale each made four
saves.
For Lasell, goalkeeper Don Berube made six saves.
Foss won 15-of-21 faceoffs and picked up nine
groundballs.
Kean returns to action on Saturday, March 17, when the Cougars
host The College at Brockport at Noon.
