Union, N.J. (9/19/12) – Senior Carly Seidel recorded two goals to lead the Kean University women's soccer team past Rutgers-Newark, 5-0, Wednesday evening in NJAC action.
With the win the Cougars improve to 6-1 and 1-0 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. Rutgers-Newark falls to 1-6-1 overall and 0-1-1 in conference play.
Kean used a balanced scoring attack as Seidel used a one-on-one situation in the early going to take a 1-0 lead. Senior Julianna Natale quickly made it 2-0 as she blasted the game's second goal in the 12th minute. Seidel (pictured left) added her second of the game off an assist from Natale on a bender at 32:48 to give Kean a 3-0 advantage at the break.
Senior Jaclyn Janicky knocked it in to make it 4-0 in the 64th minute off a back heel pass from senior Ana Sanchez. The Cougars rounded out the scoring as freshman Becky Oliveira recorded her first collegiate goal, a header, of a rebounded shot from sophomore Sam Marchetti.
Keeper Samantha Blair tallied four saves in goal to improve to 4-0 this season. Rookie Kelsey Benoit registered nine saves in the loss for the Scarlet Raiders.
Kean returns to action on Saturday when they host Rutgers-Camden at 6 p.m.
