Men's Soccer Breezes By St. Joseph's-L.I.

Union, N.J. (9/6/12) – The Kean University men's soccer team used a four goal first half to defeat visiting St. Joseph's College-Long Island by the final of 5-1, Thursday evening in non-conference action.

The win improves the Cougars to 2-1 while the loss is the first for the Golden Eagles (2-1).

Kean wasted little time as junior A.J. Kolesa headed a corner serve from freshman Jose Arevalo above the keeper for a 1-0 lead just four minutes into the contest.  Ten minutes later, sophomore Erickson Simeon took a cross from sophomore Tomasz Wisniewski and hit a hard shot past the keeper for a 2-0 advantage.  Rookie Luis Velasquez made it 3-0 with a cross from Simeon and senior Michael Custidiano rounded out the first half scoring with a give and go from Arevalo (pictured left).

The Golden Eagles broke up the shutout as junior Favio Alves nailed a direct kick from 20 yards out.

Keepers Tyler Callahan and John Londono split time in the win for Kean.  Senior Chris Muhs and freshman Niko Petratos also split time for St. Joseph's in the loss.

Kean returns to action on Saturday when they take on Johns Hopkins University while playing in the Blue Jay Classic at Elizabethtown College.
