MONTCLAIR, N.J. (10/16/13) – The Kean University men's soccer team battled No. 8 Montclair State University to a scoreless draw in regulation on Wednesday night, but the Red Hawks netted the game-winner in the first overtime to take the NJAC matchup.
Kean is now 9-6-1 and 0-5-1 in the NJAC and the Red Hawks are 11-2-1 and 3-1-2 in the league.
Trey Leggett headed home the winner off a set piece two minutes into the first overtime; Lucas Terci served in the initial volley and earned the assist.
The Cougars were led by Kevin Olaya and Luis Velasquez, who took three shots each. They, Kenny Rocha, Stephen Moll and Akwasi Adu all put shots on net during the match but could not get one past MSU's Michael Gonzalez. His counterpart goaltender, Tyler Callahan, made six saves for Kean on the night.
The Cougars won the stat sheet; they took more shots (15-13) and more corner kicks (9-4) than the hosts.
Kean will next head to the College of New Jersey on Saturday for an 11 a.m. showdown with the Lions.
