No. 3/8 Montclair Tops Women's Soccer

UNION, N.J. (10/16/13) – The Kean University women's soccer team fell to undefeated No. 3/8 Montclair State University 3-0 on Wednesday night. The loss drops the Cougars to 8-4-1 and 4-2 in the NJAC, while the Red Hawks stayed perfect on the year (14-0, 6-0).

Montclair got off to a fast start in the match and scored two first-half goals. Senior Allison Wacker assisted both goals; junior Kaila Fasano scored the first and her calassmate Melanie Greco headed in the second to stake the Red Hawks to a 2-0 lead at the break. Shannon Pedersen had the only shot of the half for the Cougars, which she put on goal at 4:06.

Carla Vitola had a couple great chances for Kean in the second period. Both times the senior shot the ball top shelf from approximately 25 yards out but Montclair goalkeeper Gina Policastro punched them both just over the crossbar to preserve her shutout.

Sophomore Stefanie Gomes added a third MSU goal on a free kick from 40 yards out that grazed the underside of the crossbar as it went in with no margin for error.

KC Nunez finished with seven saves on the night for the Cougars.

Kean will return home to face The College of New Jersey on Saturday at 5 p.m. as part of the Kean homecoming festivities.
