Women's Soccer Battles to 1-1 Draw with #4/10 TCNJ

Union, N.J. (10/19/13) – The Kean University women's soccer team battled their second straight ranked opponent and came up with a 1-1 draw against #4/10 The College of New Jersey on Saturday evening.

On an evening where the soccer program honored their six seniors, it was one of them who set up the match's first goal of the night in Shannon Pedersen.  Pedersen used a direct free kick opportunity from the right side of the field near to loft a ball into the center of the box that was one-timed into the net by sophomore Angie Lopez just over 30 minutes into the action.

The score would remain 1-0 Cougars, despite the offensive opportunities by the Lions (12-1-1, 5-1-1 NJAC), who outshot Kean, 16-2 in the opening stanza.

TCNJ took advantage of one of their 12 shots in the second half to knot the match at one-all as junior Jordan Downs served in a corner opportunity (one of 10 total on the night for the Lions) that was knocked in from senior Katie Lindacher

Kean keeper KC Nunez registered 13 saves on the night.

The Cougars head to the road to take on Western Connecticut State University in non-conference action on Monday.
