Danbury, Conn. (10/21/13) – The Kean University women's soccer team battled to their second straight one-all draw on Monday night, this time against Western Connecticut State University in non-conference action.
Junior Sam Marchetti (pictured left) put Kean (8-4-3) on the board in the first half as she lightly headed a crossing pass from classmate Carly Snyder. With 5:09 remaining in the first half, sophomore Rebecca Rivera was able to put away a header off the corner kick from freshman Celia DeVoe to knot the game at one-all.
Both teams had several chances to take a lead or win the game in the extra frames. Kean unleashed a barrage of shots and corner kicks but keeper Alison Rettenmeier and the defense withstood the challenge.
For the Cougars, KC Nunez tallied nine saves after coming in the 33rd minute, while Rettenmeier finished the night with six for Western Connecticut (10-6-1).
Kean stays on the road and will travel to Rowan University on Saturday.
