Field Hockey Drops Tough 1-0 Matchup with Stockton

GALLOWAY, N.J. (9/19/13) – The Kean University field hockey team made 10 saves on the day but could not solve the Richard Stockton College defense as the Ospreys made a first-half goal stand up in a 1-0 NJAC match on Saturday.

It is just Kean's second loss of the season, dropping the team to 13-2 and 2-2 in the NJAC. Stockton is now 10-4 overall and is also 2-2 in the league.

Cassie Kirk scored the game's only goal with just a minute to go before halftime. She took a centering pass from Colleen Knight and shoveled the ball into the goal to give Stockton the 1-0 lead at the break.

The Cougars had their chances, as the team took 11 penalty corners on the day. Seniors Stephanie Soares and Korri Thompson led the team with two shots apiece, but Stockton's Liz Stankiewicz was asked to make just two saves on the day to earn the shutout.

Kean goalkeeper Katie DiCarlo made eight saves and Diane Boccella (pictured left) and Marissa Robinson both had defensive saves of their own in the match.

The game was fiercely contested with the sides splitting four yellow cards with two more green cards thrown in for good measure.

The Cougars will have seven days off before travelling to Rowan University on October 26 for a 1 p.m. NJAC showdown with the Profs.
