Glassboro, N.J. (10/26/13) - The Kean University Field Hockey team was defeated by Rowan University 4-1 in a crucial NJAC matchup on Saturday afternoon.
Korri Thompson (pictured left) put the Cougars (13-3, 2-3 NJAC) on the board early in the first half. She connected off a corner attempt from Stephanie Soares just 1:10 in the contest. The Profs (9-6, 2-2 NJAC) knotted the game up midway through the first half as Alison DiMenna found the ball in the middle of a scrum in front of the Cougars cage, and deposited it into the back of the cage.
Just 26 seconds into the second half, the Profs took the lead for good, as Amy McKeever used a breakaway and buried the shot to give the Profs a 2-1 lead. Two minutes later, Erika Mecchella took a shot from the top of the circle that ricocheted off the keeper and into the back of the cage. The Profs would add an insurance goal later in the second half, giving them the final 4-1 margin.
The Cougars outshot the Profs 15-14 on the afternoon. Katie DiCarlo made four saves for the Cougars, while Steph Columbo made five saves for the Profs.
The Cougars return home for Senior Night on Tuesday, October 29th, as they battle #1 Montclair State University in the home finale at Alumni Stadium at 7:30 p.m.
