Rochester Tops Men's Soccer

Rochester, N.Y. (10/26/13) – The University of Rochester used a balanced scoring attack as they shut down the Kean University men's soccer team by the final of 3-0 Saturday evening in non-conference action.

Rochester, currently ranked 19th nationally in both the National Soccer Coaches of America (NSCAA) and D3soccer Top 25 poll, improves to 11-2-1 this fall while Kean falls to 9-9-1.

The Yellowjackets broke through with what would be the game-winner in the 22nd minute as Keith Grafmeyer headed a corner opportunity for a 1-0 lead.  The goal wasn't signaled right away by the linesman and was headed off the line by Cougar Steven Osores, but it was ruled a goal after conformation that the ball had indeed crossed the line.

Rochester tried to add to its lead with opportunities from Alex Swanger and Andrew Greenway with under 20 to play, but Kean goalie Tyler Callahan stopped them both, making some tough saves.

The Yellowjackets were then able to get a big insurance goal in the 84th minute when senior Max Fan scored on a chipped header that just cleared the outstretched hands of Callahan.  The goal was set up on a long through ball from the left wing by Sean Daly.  UR then was able to strike again three minutes later, scoring on a strong counter attack.  Greenway rushed up the left sideline and swung a nice cross right to the foot of Swanger for the final.

The Cougars close out the regular season on Wednesday when they travel to William Paterson University.
