UNION, N.J. (3/29/13) – The Kean University softball team dropped a pair of NJAC games to Rowan University on Friday afternoon; 9-2 in game one and 4-0 in the nightcap. Megan Cegielski (pictured left) and Katie Schuh had three hits each for the Cougars.
#22 Rowan scored one in the first and then added four unearned runs in the third to take a 5-0 lead in the first game. For Kean, Schuh doubled to start the home half of third and Courtney Yard drove her in to get the Cougars on the board.
Schuh knocked her second-straight double in the fifth, and Sandra Binkiewicz knocked her in to inch Kean closer to the Profs; the score was 5-2 after five.
Rowan opened up the lead for good in the sixth. Shilah Snead and Ashley DeYoung connected for two-run homers that ended the game one scoring and delivered the victory for the Profs.
In game two, Kean's freshman pitcher Casey Glatts put the first two Rowan batters on base, but showed poise to get the next three Prof hitters in order. In the bottom of the frame, Kean loaded the bases with two outs but could not break through for the first run of game two.
Glatts followed the same recipe in the second and put the first two on before getting the next three in a row to keep the game scoreless. Glatts and Kryati Maronski dueled over six scoreless innings until the fateful seventh.
In the final frame, the Profs managed four runs on four hits to score the only runs of the game and sweep the doubleheader from Kean.
After a three-day hiatus for Easter, the Cougars will continue their NJAC schedule with a doubleheader against New Jersey City University at 3 p.m. on Tuesday.
