SELINSGROVE, Pa. (8/30/13) – Sophomore Marissa Robinson of the Kean University field hockey team broke though the Albright College defense in the 55th minute to score the only goal of the Cougars' opening night victory on Friday. Sophomore goaltender Katie DiCarlo turned away all shots to earn the shutout.
Kean dominated the pace of the game throughout the night. The Cougars outshot Albright 10-3 in the first half and took five penalty corners to the Lions' one, but the score stubbornly remained 0-0 at the break.
In the second period Kean came on even stronger, strangling the Lions by a shot margin of 20 to 2. The Cougars were finally rewarded when another member of the class of 2016, Laura Cheatham, slipped Robinson a pass that allowed her to score the team's first goal of the season.
DiCarlo (pictured left) made the mark stand up over the final 15 minutes, though the Kean defense asked her to make just one save per half. The Cougars outshot Albright 30-5 and put 11 more shots on net. Kean also took 14 penalty corners to Albright's four.
The Cougars will be right back in action on Saturday when they will take on St. John Fisher College for the Connie Harnum Classic Championship at 2:30 p.m. The Cardinals defeated host Susquehanna University earlier on Friday.
