DELAWARE, Ohio (8/31/13) – The Ohio Wesleyan men's soccer team got the better of Kean University 6-0 in the de facto championship game of the Fred Meyers Invitational on Saturday.
Gordon Lyng and Akwasi Adu each put a shot on goal for the Cougars.
Ohio Wesleyan had a pair of chances to take the lead in the first half, with a header from junior midfielder Colton Bloecher midway through the first half, and a run by Brian Schaefer on the Kean goal, but Cougar goalkeeper Brad Watkins made the save each time.
Schaefer had more success on his next try, fielding a pass from Evan Lee and chipping the ball into the back of the net with 16:21 left in the first half. The Lee-Schaefer duo connected again shortly thereafter, with Lee finding Schaefer inside the penalty area and Schaefer finishing off the chance with 8:49 to play in the period.
The Bishops went on to score four second-period goals to claim the title.
For Kean, Stephen Moll, Kevin Olaya and Edgardo Alfaro were named to the all-tournament team. The Cougars will next travel to St. Joseph's College on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
