FREDRICKSBURG, Va. (9/14/13) – Freshmen Kevin Olaya and Kenny Rocha scored to give the Kean University men's soccer team a 2-0 lead in the second half, but the University of Mary Washington scored three late goals to steal a win on Saturday.
The two sides were scoreless for the first 35 minutes before the freshman Olaya knocked one in unassisted for his first goal of the year and his collegiate career. It was the only tally for either side in the first half.
The Cougars held Mary Washington without a shot in the first 45 minutes, and exactly one minute after halftime ended Rocha scored on a penalty kick rebound to double the Kean lead to 2-0. It was his second goal of the year.
Things flipped in the second half, however, and UMW outshot the Cougars 7-5 in the period. Nick Shepherd assisted on the first two Mary Washington goals and Riley Fisher scored unassisted in the 82nd minute as the Eagles stunned Kean 3-2.
The Cougars will remain in the Old Dominion state tonight and take on Marymount University on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Alexandria.
