Palmer's Second Half Goal Carries Men's Soccer

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (9/15/13) – Senior Sheldon Palmer scored in the 55th minute and the Kean University men's soccer defense made the strike stand up as the Cougars defeated Marymount (Va.) University 1-0 on Sunday.

Kean allowed just two shots on goal and Kean keeper Brad Watkins snared them both to earn his first shutout of the season.

The first half was even and cautiously played by both sides. The Cougars led the shot totals 5-3 and took the only two corner kicks of the period.

In the second half, however, Kean was the aggressor. The Jerseyans took 17 shots to MU's two and took six corner kicks while conceding just one.

With the game scoreless in the 55th minute, sophomore Pablo Valle found Palmer (pictured left) in the box for the score. It was Palmer's first goal of the year and Valle's first assist of the season. The Cougars allowed just one more shot in the final 35 minutes; Watkins gobbled it up and the Cougars wrapped up their Virginia road trip with a victory.

Kean will head to Richard Stockton College to open NJAC play on Saturday at 1 p.m.
