Union, N.J. (9/14/13) – The Kean University women's soccer team used a late second half surge to push past visiting Manhattanville College by the final of 3-0, Saturday evening in non-conference action.
Despite maintaining the offensive threat all evening, the Cougars (3-2-1) were unable to capitalize until late in the contest. Senior Amanda Repko (pictured left) provided what would be the winning goal off a corner insert from senior Shannon Pedersen with just over eight and a half minutes remaining in the second half. Once Kean got on the board, their offense seemed to find the holes as senior Shelby Wallace then added insurance with a lofted goal from about 15 yards out that found the upper right-hand corner of the net just two minutes later. Sophomore Angie Lopez, who assisted on Wallace's tally, then recorded one of her own as she played around a pulled out keeper, corralled her rebound and fired one into the empty net.
Kean outshot the Valiants (2-3), 22-2 in the shutout win.
Manhattanville keeper Dolores Diemicke registered 10 saves in the losing effort.
The Cougar enjoy a short break and open up New Jersey Athletic Conference play on Saturday, September 21st when they host Richard Stockton College at 5 p.m.
