UNION, N.J. (9/21/13) – Senior Briana
Fischer scored the lone goal of the contest to help lead
Richard Stockton College to a 1-0 victory over the Kean University
Women's Soccer team on Saturday evening.
Both teams had great opportunities to bury the ball into the
back of the net during the opening 45 minutes, but KC
Nunez and Sarah Hinkle didn't allow a goal
in the first half. The Ospreys' chance came in the
25th minute as they had consecutive corner kicks, but
they were thwarted by Nunez and the Cougar defense. The Cougars
best option came in the waning seconds of the opening stanza, as
Carly Snyder hammered a ball towards the upper
part of the goal, but Hinkle was there for the save.
The Ospreys (7-2, 1-0 NJAC) got on the board early in the second
half. After a foul in the box on a Cougars (3-3-1, 0-1 NJAC)
defender, Fischer was able to beat Nunez on the penalty kick
opportunity to give the Ospreys the deciding goal. The Cougars
nearly answered back on the ensuing kickoff, as Deanna
Columbia took a long volley and hammered a shot that
looked like it was going to find the mesh in the back of net, but
Hinkle was there to make the save.
Nunez finished with three saves, while Hinkle finished with nine
for the Ospreys.
The Cougars will return to action Wednesday, September
25th as they travel Newark to take on Rutgers-Newark in
NJAC action at 7:30 p.m.
