Newark, N.J. (9/25/13) – Sophomore Angie Lopez provided all the offense Kean University would need as the women's soccer team shutdown Rutgers-Newark by the final of 2-0 in NJAC action.
The Cougars (4-3-1, 1-1 NJAC) dominated the offensive side of the ball, holding an 18-4 advantage in shots, in addition to taking all seven corner kicks in the contest.
The Scarlet Raiders (3-5-1, 0-2 NJAC) were led by rookie keeper Diana Aviles who made five saves in the contest. Sophomore KC Nunez (pictured left) posted two saves in the shutout win.
Lopez gathered a loose ball on the left side after Aviles mishandled a cross and punched the game winner into the open goal in the 25th minute. Lopez added an insurance goal in the 64th minute when she headed in a free kick from the right sideline by senior Amanda Repko into the left side of the box.
Kean continues conference play when they travel to take on Rutgers-Camden on Saturday at 1 p.m.
