CAMDEN, N.J. (9/28/13) – The Kean University women's soccer team earned its third shutout in four games and sophomore Angie Lopez scored twice in the Cougars' 3-0 triumph over Rutgers-Camden on Saturday. Senior Shannon Pedersen assisted the first two Kean goals of the game via corner kicks.
Kean got its offense started quickly with a goal less than 10 minutes in by freshman Jordyn Bronsky. Pedersen served the ball into the box from the corner and found Bronsky, who headed the ball into the cage for the second goal of her collegiate career.
Kean allowed just two shots by the Scarlet Raptors in the first period, and with time running out in the half netted some insurance. Again from a corner, Pedersen (pictured left) launched the ball into the box, where it was knocked in front of the net for Lopez. The Rahway native buried it with just seven seconds remaining on the scoreboard for a 2-0 halftime lead.
The second period went by fairly uneventfully until the 85th minute. There, Kean controlled the ball and Sam Marchetti centered a pass in the box. Lopez took the offering and drilled a shot top shelf into the Camden cage for her second goal of the game, sixth of the season and fourth in the last two games. It was Marchetti's third assist of the year.
Kean goaltender KC Nunez was asked to make just one save as she earned her fourth win and third shutout of the season. The Cougars outshot their hosts 15-6.
Kean will return home to face New Jersey City University on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. at Alumni Stadium.
