Offensive Surge Sends Women's Soccer Past FDU-Florham

Madison, N.J. (9/4/13) – The Kean University women's soccer team used a four goal first half surge to top FDU-Florham by the final of 6-4, Wednesday evening.

Junior Sam Marchetti used a long feed from senior Amanda Repko, getting Kean (2-1) on the board just six minutes into the matchup.  Six minutes later it would be Marchetti (pictured left) with a short cross to rookie Jordyn Bronsky for a two goal lead.  The Cougars weren't done and just over 16 minutes into the game junior Carly Snyder launched a strike from the right side for a quick 3-0 lead.

Senior Claire Donohue would erase the shutout with two goals sandwiched around a long strike off the foot of senior Carla Vitola, sending Kean into the break with a 4-2 lead.

Senior Michelle Hickey closed the gap to one goal early in the second period off a long cross from Claudia Falconieri, but Kean responded with a combo of Shelbys' as senior Shelby Wallace sent a cross from the sidelines to junior Shelby Pedersen who chipped it around the keeper for a 5-3 Cougar lead.

FDU-Florham (2-1) didn't go quietly as Mary Kate Whalen used a direct kick opportunity from 40 yards out and turned the shoot into a goal with 30 minutes left in regulation.

Kean put the game out of reach with a late goal from sophomore Angie Lopez to seal their second win of the year.

The Cougars travel to Virginia for the Captains Classic beginning on Saturday.
