DOYLESTOWN, Pa. (10/21/14) – Freshman Krista LaMaina scored her second goal of the game with no time left on the clock to snap a 2-2 tie and deliver the victory for the Kean University field hockey team over Delaware Valley College on Tuesday night.
LaMaina was also part of the first scoring barrage for the Cougars, when they scored two goals in the span of a minute. At 13:43, Marissa Robinson scored the game's first goal on a blast from the top of the circle with an assist from Chelsea Mann.
Then at 14:52, LaMaina deflected Jordan Colna's shot in front and tipped it past the Del Val goaltender for a 2-0 Kean lead.
The Aggies cut the lead in half with an unassisted goal before halftime, making the count 2-1 at the break. Delaware Valley scored again off a penalty corner with 15 minutes remaining in regulation, setting up a 2-2 tie in the endgame.
After Kean earned its last of 18 corners on the night, the clock hit all-zeros but play continued as the half cannot end on a defensive penalty. Robinson (pictured left) took the initial shot off the corner, and LaMaina was again in good position in front to deflect it in and touch off a celebration for the Cougars, who improved to 11-6 on the year. The Aggies sink to 6-11 with the loss.
Katie DiCarlo earned the win for Kean in the cage with four saves, and Bridgette Bottinelli tied LaMaina for the team lead in shots with seven.
The field hockey team will be back in action on Saturday when it hosts a pivotal NJAC matchup with playoff implications at 5 p.m. on Saturday against Richard Stockton College.
