Women's Soccer Toughs Out 1-1 Draw

Union, N.J. (10/22/14) – The Kean University women's soccer toughed out their second straight double overtime draw by the final of one-all against visiting Western Connecticut State University Wednesday night.

In a match that featured 100 minutes of wind swept rain, the Cougars (9-5-2) were the first to strike as rookie Kaitlyn Pallitto finished a through ball from senior Shelby Pedersen in the sixth minute for an early 1-0 advantage.

The Colonials (12-4-1) took advantage of a missed clear from the Kean defense and evened the score at the 38:01 mark as freshman Samantha Carbonell found the back of the net with the equalizer.

The score would remain that way, despite some good looks from both sides.  Kean had a chance to make it 2-0 in the 20th minute as Pedersen (pictured left) nailed the crossbar while Western Connecticut suffered the same fate early in the second half as Sarah Menta fired a shot that was saved by Kean's KC Nunez, but the ball remained in play and Carbonell lined her shot into the crossbar as well.

Nunez recorded seven saves on the night as Western Connecticut tallied a total of 28 shots.  Rookie Jillian Fernandez made four stops in the draw.

Kean's final game of the regular season is slated for Wednesday, October 29th when they host Ramapo College on senior night.
