UNION, N.J. (10/23/14) – The Richard Stockton College men's soccer team scored two goals in the opening 10 minutes of its matchup with Kean University on Thursday, and went on the take the match by a 4-0 final. Anthony Colofranson had a natural hat trick in the game for the Ospreys.
Stockton scored both early goals on counterattacks; it was the Cougars who controlled play early on, and the ball was mainly in the Stockton defensive zone. But the Ospreys got two good passes to start odd-man rushes, and capitalized on both of them.
On the first, a Kean push in the box earned a penalty kick, which was converted by Colofranson. On the second, Bobby Spracklin's through ball put Colofranson one-on-one with the Cougar keeper. Nick Pavlichko saved the first try, but Colofranson got the rebound and put it in from a tough angle to give Stockton the 2-0 lead.
After those goals, the Ospreys took the initiative. They had numerous scoring chances in the rest of the half, hit a post and went in to the break leading Kean 10-6 in shots and 6-3 in shots on goal.
Kean threatened throughout the match, but could not generate another good scoring chance despite flipping the column and outshooting the Ospreys 13-7 in the second.
Sevag Kherlopian (pictured left) led Kean with five shots, including four tests of RSC goalie Bobby Varga. Andrew Reina added four more shots for the Cougars. Varga made nine saves to earn the shutout for Stockton.
Colofranson earned his hat trick at 70:45 on a good touch pass across the goal mouth by Spracklin. Chimaibi Ikwuagwo capped the scoring 16 minutes later with Jose Islas assisting on that score.
The men's soccer team will return to the pitch on Saturday for Senior Day against the University of Rochester at Kean Alumni Stadium.
