STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (10/6/14) – Freshman wunderkind Sevag Kherlopian provided the offense for the Kean University men's soccer team yet again in the Cougars' 1-0 victory over The John Jay College of Criminal Justice on Monday. Kean is now 8-4-1 on the year, while JJC sinks to 4-8.
Kherlopian – the reigning NJAC Player of the Week after scoring all three Cougar goals last week – netted Monday's only score with an assist from senior Patrick Foley in the 29th minute. The assist was the second of the year for Foley.
The goal was number seven on the year for Kherlopian, who leads the team with seven.
The Cougar defense also deserves praise for the win over the Bloodhounds, as they allowed just five shots in the whole game. The first half was espivcially dominant, with John Jay managing only one shot and none on goal.
Kean goalkeeper Nick Pavlichko (pictured left) earned the shutout win and made two second-half saves to secure the victory. The Cougars outshot the hosts 23-5 overall.
Kean will return home to host William Paterson University at 4 p.m. on Saturday at Kean Alumni Stadium.
