MAHWAH, N.J. (10/7/14) – Freshman Krista LaMaina scored twice to lead the Kean University field hockey team to a 4-1 NJAC win at Ramapo College on Tuesday. The victory improves the Cougars' record to 9-4, while Ramapo sinks to 2-11. Both sides came into the contest seeking their first conference win (0-2).
Chelsea Mann got the game going quickly for Kean and scored less than two minutes into the proceedings. Marissa Robinson passed to Mann on the left side who re-directed it in for the goal.
LaMaina then scored two-straight goals – including the eventual game-winner - to put the Cougars up 3-0 at halftime. Robinson (pictured left) assisted on the first one, while Krista's twin sister Shauna LaMaina provided the setup on the second with a pass through the Roadrunner defense.
Ramapo got a goal 10 minutes into the second period, but Robinson ended any hopes of a comeback with an unassisted goal at 56:14, her team-leading 12th of the season. Krista LaMaina is now alone in second place with eight.
The Cougars will begin a three-game homestand on Saturday when they take on SUNY New Paltz at 1 p.m.
