PURCHASE, N.Y. (3/2/14) – The Kean University men's volleyball team – back to No. 11 in the national poll - took down Skyline rivals Ramapo College and Yeshiva University by identical 3-1 scores on Sunday to stay perfect in the conference. Kean is 5-0 in the league and 12-6 overall after winning nine-straight matches.
Ramapo fell to 12-4 and 5-1 in the Skyline, while Yeshiva sank to 1-7 and 0-5 in the conference.
After two relative tight sets with the Maccabees, the Cougars asserted themselves and won going away in the final two sets, 25-9 and 25-7.
The matchup against the Roadrunners pitted two undefeated Skyline heavyweights vying for the top spot in the conference.
Fittingly, the first set went overtime at 28-26. Ramapo hit a healthy .517 in the first set, but Kean swung an amazing .655 as a team with only one error. The Cougars improved their defense dramatically in the second and held the Roadrunners to a -.038 hitting percentage (7kills/8errors) in the second to jump ahead 2-0 in the match.
Kean fell 25-21 in the third set, but turned that score around to clinch the match with a 25-21 victory in the fourth.
Juniors Ed Jedziniak and John Cunningham both hit over .500 (.526 and .520, respectively), while their classmate Bez Arslani led all players with 20.5 points (19 kills and three block assists).
Jedzniak and Michael Fox had service aces in the match, while Kyle Farley led the way with four total blocks. Ron Dunn had 47 assists and Fox (pictured left) dug out 10 balls for Kean.
The Cougars will continue Skyline play when they host the Sage Colleges on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
