Union, N.J. (4/2/14) – Junior Bez Arslani had 14 kills and setter Ron Dunn dished out 30 assists to lead the Kean University men's volleyball team past Ramapo College in straight sets on senior night in a pivotal Skyline Conference match on Wednesday evening.
With the win, Kean is now ahead by two games in the conference standings with three matches left to play.
The first set was a see-saw tilt, with neither side pulling ahead by more than three points. It also featured a crazy series of rallies, in which Arslani saved a ball from going out of bounds by going onto the opposite side of the court, and a blistering dig from Michael Fox which led to a kill by Kyle Farley to earn the point. The Cougars trailed 23-20 late in the set, but reeled off the final five points, while capitalizing on a pair of Roadrunner attack errors.
The #13 Cougars (21-7, 11-0 Skyline) were helped out by their hitting prowess in the second set. Kean out-hit the Roadrunners .258 to .172, which proved to be a key component in the middle set. The Cougars were aided in the third set by a 6-0 run to stretch their lead to 19-13, capped off by an impressive solo block by Dunn. The match was sealed with a kill from John Cunningham after Ramapo had threatened a comeback.
Farley led the way with six assisted blocks, while Dunn chipped in one solo block and three block assists. Ramapo (21-9, 9-2 Skyline) was led by Andrew Ballint who had 35 assists, and Brian Colabella who had nine digs.
Prior to the match, the Cougars honored seniors Fox, Josh Haimann, Tom Kemmerle and Arthur Kosakowski (pictured left) in a pregame ceremony.
The Cougars are back in action on Sunday, April 6th as they take on New Jersey City and Mount St. Vincent in Skyline Conference action beginning at noon.
